1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Expense Tracker ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Expense Tracker is a personal finance tool that allows you to:

• Upload bank statement CSV files and parse transaction data.
• Categorise transactions using keyword rules you define.
• View monthly and yearly spending reports and visualisations.
• Manage expense type mappings (Needs, Wants, Investment).

The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use only.

3. Account Registration

To use the Service you must register an account with a valid email address and a password. You are responsible for:

• Keeping your login credentials confidential.
• All activity that occurs under your account.
• Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

You must provide accurate information during registration. Accounts found to be using false information may be suspended without notice.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or data.
• Upload malicious files or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in the Service.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
• Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service at a rate that could degrade performance for other users.

5. Your Data

You retain full ownership of the financial data you upload to the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and process that data solely for the purpose of providing the features described in Section 2.

We do not claim ownership over your data and will never use it for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Service.

6. Data Accuracy

Expense Tracker is a tool to help you organise and visualise your financial data. It does not provide financial advice, and the reports generated are based entirely on data you supply. We are not responsible for decisions made based on information displayed in the Service.

7. Service Availability

We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or factors outside our control. We will not be liable for any losses arising from downtime or service interruptions.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Expense Tracker and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, all your data — including transactions, categories, and reports — will be permanently removed from our systems.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without prior notice.

10. Open Source & Self-hosted Use

The Expense Tracker source code is made available under the MIT licence. You are free to fork, modify, and self-host the software. When self-hosting, you are solely responsible for the security and operation of your instance, and these Terms do not apply to data processed on your own infrastructure.

11. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts.
